As part of the state’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gases (GHG) the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) offers manufacturers in certain industries once-a-year credit on their utility bill. It can be substantial, ranging from $500 to up to $85,000. The deadline for the program is September 30, 2024, and the credit would appear on your April 2025 bill. Industries eligible for the tax credit include food manufacturers, breweries, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and biological products. The full list can be found on the website below. Since the credit cannot be claimed simultaneously with the California small business energy credit (and other CPUC program), it is important to look at your bill and understand how the programs interact.
